Aww that's so sweet. I can see Merlin doing that; trying to stay awake because he feels like he keeps getting too close to losing Arthur. I can also see Arthur saying what he said. Maybe not in a romantic context, but at this point, just losing Merlin as a friend might be a hard thing for him to think of. Wonderful story.
